What would you do?

Maybe you can help me with my dilemma.
For May and June I was working with a photographer. I was shooting for him doing product. It was cool because he shoots mostly skate companies. He trained me for that time to shoot close to their style which is what all of the companies hire him for, his particular style.

Everything was going fine and then all of a sudden, the end of the last week of June I was informed that he didn't need me anymore. He told me that the art director from two of his clients requested one of the other photographers on staff shoot their stuff instead of me. He was planning on having those two companies be sort of my accounts. Since they didn't want me to shoot for them, he didn't have any work for me.

Now I was out of job with no warning. I have been looking for work since then with no success. Career services at Brooks told me about a company looking to hire an in house photographer for all of their catalogue work. The company is one of that photographers clients. One of his bigger clients. In a way I am going behind his back to snag one of his clients based on the training that he gave me. On the other hand I didn't pursue the job and if that company is going to hire an in house photographer anyways, I am not being sneaky or sly with that photographer.

Opinions, suggestions, criticism. Please

You gotta do what you gotta do to stay afloat Zach. Its not sneaky in anyway. But thats just my opinion. There's no room in this world for looking out for anyone but yourself... sounds selfish but if you don't look out for number one then who will?
